[2012/04/24]3M Supported “Eyetopia Artogether” to Promote Social Inclusion

3M values the sustainable development of the community in which it operates and social inclusion is the keystone of social development.

That's why 3M Hong Kong fully supported "Eyetopia Artogether", a meaningful event jointly organized by the Lions Club of Victoria Hong Kong, the Leo Club of Victoria Hong Kong, Hong Kong Society for the Blind, and the Methodist Centre. This year, embracing the theme "Live Your Way with a Smiley Face", the event encouraged visually impaired people and the general public to participate in the activities together, and called upon the society to be more socially inclusive by caring for the impaired.

In March, "Eyetopia Artogether" organized four education and drawing workshops and attracted the visually impaired and students from primary and secondary schools – about two hundred people in total – to draw colourful pictures cooperatively. On 15th April, a carnival cum closing ceremony was held at the Southern Playground in Wanchai.

3M set up a game booth to demonstrate its proprietary Tactile Guide Products in the carnival. Three short tactile guide paths with slip-resistant surface, strongly-adhered, easy and quiet to install markers, were laid before the booth. The public were welcome to put on the eyeshades and walked on those paths under the guidance of 3M staff. While feeling the directional, positional and warning tactile markers under their feet, people could catch a glimpse of the life of the visually impaired. A group of panel judges, including Mrs. Cecilia Yuen, Assistant Director of Social Welfare Department, came to vet 3M's booth by learning the design and special features of 3M™ Safety-Walk™ Tactile Guide Solution. Finally, they presented 3M with "The Best Game Booth Award".
