How is acne formed?
Acne vulgaris, more commonly known as acne, is an inflammatory condition of the sebaceous glands of the skin.
Three main causes of acne:
1. Hormones 2. Blocking of hair follicle 3. Bacterial infection
Types of acne and their cure by Nexcare™ Acne Dressing
Whiteheads / Blackheads
Over-secretion of sebum fills the hair duct. The dried sebum and the shredded skin cells reach the skin surface at the pore opening and are discolored on exposure to air, forming a blackhead. The dark color of blackheads is from a pigment, called melanin, of the shredded skin cells. Whiteheads usually appear on the skin surface as small, whitish bumps.
Apply Nexcare™ Acne Dressing to prevent infection due to squeezing with hands.
Nodules
The accumulated sebum in a clogged follicle could cause a build-up of bacteria because some bacteria live on sebum. There will be inflammation, redness and swelling around the pus-formed area of the skin. They are firm, red, painful lumps just under the skin.
Apply Nexcare™ Acne Dressing to aid the absorption of secretion.
Pustules
More serious infection will lead to pus-filled yellowish bumps.
Along with physician's advice, Nexcare™ Acne Dressing can be applied to aid the absorption of secretion and promote healing.
Cysts
If the inflammation is deep and severe, the pus can burst deep into the skin tissues rather than onto the skin surface, with a diameter up to 2 cm. This deep-rooted inflammation and infection result in cyst formation, which are always purplish red in color, and is often painful.
Acne of this stage should be treated under medical advice.
